At ADAM & Mila we are on a mission to provide parents with tips and ideas for FUN and EDUCATIONAL activities that provide targeted support for their child’s development of important life skills.
We do this by mixing great activities contributed by parenting bloggers with a bit of science about the typical developmental milestones and the order in which different skills are best learned.
However, we are neither scientist nor medical professionals. Here we would like to help you set appropriate expectations for the accuracy and usefulness of the information you will find throughout this website.
What you can expect
You can expect our honest best effort to provide solid advice based on our own research and experience as parents.
We try our best to avoid controversial issues, political bias, false statements and disputed facts. (We appreciate very much when our readers point out inaccuracies on our site, it helps us to get better).
We provide extensive linking to additional sources of information to help our readers explore the topics in greater depth.
If you expect the information to be about as accurate as that provided by a good friend (with no professional background), and you use the information on our site for the purpose of finding suitable activities to play with your child, then your expectations are about right.
What you should not expect from us
We are not professionals, neither in medicine nor child development.
While we do our very best, our content does not live up to the standards of academic research. We purposefully keep the style of our content that of a blog to keep it light and easy to read, while also trying to avoid giving the impression that it is science or scholarly content.
Please do not take our content as medical advice, or professional advice – do make sure to seek a professional for any kind of diagnosis.
A special note about questions regarding developmental milestones and developmental delays
We do offer a lot of information about developmental milestones. Our big idea when started ADAM & Mila was to take all the fantastic and creative baby and toddler activities written by bloggers from around the web and organize them according to the developmental milestones that happen between birth and three years old.
We believe that all children can benefit from doing activities that are at once fun and targeted at teaching new skills appropriate to their current development.
At the same time, we believe all parents can benefit from learning about the developmental stages and milestones that are most commonly used to asses children with special needs, but can be just as useful for parents of children with regular needs.
By the nature of this topic we get a lot of questions from readers who either have a child with special needs or worry that their child is not reaching the milestones quickly enough. This is where things get really hard for us!
On one side, we are very conscious of our own limited knowledge and lack of professional expertise, while on the other side we want to be as helpful as we can to our readers.
So far we have chosen to answer these questions to the best of our abilities, we kindly ask you, our reader, to be forgiving of our inability to offer real medial and professional advice.
Please do make sure to get an expert opinion if you are looking for advice on something more serious than what activity to play with you child.
Are you an expert?
One of our long-term ambitions for ADAM & Mila is to establish an advisory board of professionals that can help to review our content and weed out any inaccuracies. If you are an expert within one of the areas that we write about here on the site we would love to hear from you! Please send us a mail on email hidden; JavaScript is required
